Scanner is a network tool that lets you scan all host names in a specified range of IP addresses and verify the host status for each IP address. It also reports physical (MAC) addresses of computers in a local area network and supports Wake-on-LAN technology.

You can use the Scanner tool to:

Resolve multiple IP addresses to host names.
Resolve multiple IP addresses to physical (MAC) addresses.
Determine which hosts are active on a network.
Find hidden network services like Web servers or FTP.

To use the Scanner tool, do the following:

1.Select the Scanner tab.

2.Enter in the Address text box IP address to scan (for example, 209.68.11.200).

3.Set in the Options dialog box any of the options you want to use:

Threads

Specifies the number of simultaneous threads that are used to run the scan.

Forward

When this option is checked, the Scanner tool scans all host names in ascending order by IP address.

Verify

When this option is checked, the Scanner tool verifies host status for each IP address.

Bypass ping

When this option is checked, the Scanner tool verifies the open/closed status of the port you specified, regardless of if a host answers an ICMP echo request.

Timeout

Specifies the number of seconds the Scanner tool tries a host that is not responding.

Retries

Specifies the number of attempts the Scanner tool tries a host that is not responding.

Protocol

Specifies the network service protocol.

Tip: You can choose both port and protocol from the current list of network port numbers.

4.Click the Start button.

The Scanner tool scans the range of IP addresses. The results of the scan appear in the Hosts area.

During the scan, the Start button toggles to Stop. You can click Stop at any time to stop the scan.

Tips:

To change the default IP address range, press the Browse button.
To disable multitasking, set the Threads number to 1.
You can right-click the Hosts area to display the pop-up menu.
You can power on a computer remotely by choosing Power On from the pop-up menu.

Note:

Adjust the Threads number according to your system. Higher values result in faster scans but require much more memory.
